    I surmise that you are now reading “Dombey and Son.” Isn’t it just an exquisite novel? One of my very favorite Dickens too. And ain’t Cap’n Edd’rd Cuttle just the best? Enjoy the reading, Gina! Cheers! Chris

    Just skimming — I finally found a bookstore that had a copy. Rediscovering a Dickens novel is just as much fun as discovering it! 🙂

    I have not yet read “Dombey and Son,” but this little passage is an example of Dickens’ unparalleled ability to make incredible language associations. Who but Dickens could possibly have thought to associate heartache with the absence of an upholsterer? And do it so plausibly? Wow. Can’t wait to read this book.
