In our last installment, Mr. Chester worked to turn Emma against Edward, and Joe came to blows with a regular at the Maypole. This week, read chapters 31 and 32.

By the way, have you noticed that in these installments, we almost invariably get a long chapter followed by a short one? It gives one an interesting picture of our author trying to cram a lot into each installment without going over his weekly limit! (It also strikes yet another blow against that ridiculous "paid by the word" slander, I think.)
