My inbox is full of Helena Bonham Carter and Gillian Anderson these days, as the former prepares to become the next bigscreen Miss Havisham, and the latter is in talks to play the character in the upcoming miniseries. (The latest articles about them are here and here, respectively.) Assuming that Anderson does take the role, which Miss Havisham are you looking forward to more, and why?

I honestly don’t know what to think — I love Helena and she plays psychopaths like no one’s business, but Gillian really impressed me enormously in “Bleak House,” so I know she will be brilliant too. Overall, I’d probably have to go with Helena, since she’s my favorite.

I’m not sure, I don’t really like either choice. :/ We already HAD Gillian Anderson as a main Dickensian character, and I just can’t imagine her doing much of anything different with Miss Havisham – I mean, can she really pull off “crazy,” or will her version be more sedate (like Lady Dedlock)?
And while I do like Helena Bonham Carter she’s in so many movies nowadays she seems like a stereotypical choice. I guess I’ll just have to see! (Really I’m not that invested, though, since GE isn’t in my top Dickensian favorites, at all. Hopefully it’ll just clear the way for MORE Dickens, right?)

Haven’t seen Bonham Carter in anything (unless you count Alice in Wonderland), so I don’t know… I have a feeling Anderson will make a more interesting Miss Havisham, though, especially since it’ll be a BBC script.
I’m wondering if there will be a flashback(s) to Miss Havisham’s wedding day? Her life story was a bit confusing to me the first time I read it, so a short flashback might help new readers/movie-goers.

I think Helena Bonham-Carter will make a perfectly brilliant Miss Havisham. Very much look forward to that.
Like Nina, I can’t help thinking Gillian Anderson might be a sedate Miss Havisham, which would be weird, but she’s a lovely actress, and it would be interesting to see what she does with it.

After all, a coldly crazy Miss Havisham would be marvelous to see, as much as a psychotically crazy one. And who’s to say that Gillian couldn’t play psychotic, just because she’s played a couple reserved characters?

I’m leaning towards Bonham-Carter, myself. She does know how to bring the creepy. I’m sure Anderson’s interpretation will be interesting, as they try to take her in a more “romantic” direction, but I’m up for a Miss Havisham who can make me jump!

I am most looking forward to Helena’s Miss Havisham. I am sure she will do a great job!
I think Gillian will as well, but I’m most looking forward to Helena’s.

My brothers and I were just thinking that Helena Bonham Carter might make a good Madame Defarge should they ever make a TO2C adaptation. I would lean towards a Bonham-Carter Miss Havisham…I think Gillian’s would be more sedate, like the Miss Havisham in the Ioan Gruffudd version (which I didn’t care for…the Miss Havisham, I mean).
