Pip smackdown!

Categories: , ,

Okay, that sounds a little melodramatic. But as we now have our first photo of Jeremy Irvine as Pip (courtesy of Empire Online), I thought you all might enjoy some compare-and-contrast. Just at first glance, which Pip appeals to you more?

Jeremy Irvine (feature film):

Douglas Booth (miniseries):

(Try to ignore Booth's cell phone; I'm pretty sure Pip won't be carrying one in the finished film.)

Jeremy Irvine definitely! This movie is going to be amazing! (The miniseries too, but I am leaning more towards Irvine’s Pip).

Irvine looks more authentic to me–i.e., he looks like he could have been a blacksmith’s apprentice. On the other hand, Booth looks more like the right age. Still, I imagine people back then tended to look older than their age, unless they were born into the upper-class.

Things are coming in twos…the Snow White smackdown and now Great Expectations (which I completely forgot about)! Think I’m leaning towards Irvine’s Pip, like his look.

I like Irvine. Pip was supposed to be upset that he wasn’t “gentlemanly” enough and Douglas’ version looks a bit priggish. :/ Which is unusual for the film version to be more authentic than the miniseries. Hmm…
