In my last post, I mentioned that I'd been listening to an audiobook version of Our Mutual Friend. But I neglected to mention that it was read by David Timson, who did a terrific job. You can get hold of this one at Audible if you'd like to try it.
I'd like to hear from some of you about any Dickens audiobooks that you particularly like. What are your recommendations?
My favourite audiobook is ‘Oliver Twist’ read by Miriam Margolyes, cover to cover. I have this on cassette tape (12 tapes in all) – don’t know if it’s available in other formats.
Roy Dotrice reading ‘A Christmas Carol’ is my second favourite – also on cassette tape! Dotrice did a series of readings for LP and cassette in the late 1970s.
Our Mutual Friend by Mil Nicholson, which you can find and listen to for free on LibriVox. She does all the voices amazingly well! Her Mr.Boffin’s ‘Morning, morning, morning’ still rings in my ears!
