I have some exciting news to start off this new iteration of Dickensblog: After years of rumors and false starts, it sounds like there’s really going to be a new A Tale of Two Cities miniseries!
Deadline Hollywood has the story:
“MGM+ and the BBC have picked up an adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities starring Kit Harington (Industry, Game of Thrones), François Civil (Beating Hearts, The Three Musketeers) and Mirren Mack (Miss Austen, Hedda).
“Daniel West (Top Boy) is creator and Hong Khaou is set to direct the four-part Charles Dickens adaptation, which has been acquired by MGM+ and the BBC and comes from Federation Stories alongside Thriker Films. It will air next year.”
Let us all give thanks that this is from a different team than the one that gave us those nightmarish recent adaptations of A Christmas Carol and Great Expectations. I’m unfamiliar with Daniel West’s work, but surely it’s got to be better than that of a team who gave us Mrs. Joe whipping Uncle Pumblechook. Anyway, it’s early yet, but let us hope for the best, and be glad we’re finally getting the adaptation that many of us have been waiting and hoping for!
