Merry Christmas! I recently came across two articles that, though very different, both touch on the strong appeal of A Christmas Carol that makes us keep seeking it out. In Will Noble’s piece for The Londonist, the seeking is literal, as the author recounts his search for the door knocker that might have inspired the famous one with Marley’s head. And in this New York Times piece (thanks to Brett Coughlin for the gift link), Laura Collins-Hughes talks to the composer and the director of the current New York production of A Christmas Carol about what’s familiar and what’s new in their version, and how the new makes the familiar all the more attractive.
